It is both an honor and a privilege to invite you to participate in the 1st Annual Write, NOLA! Poetry Festival sponsored by the artist-led organization WordPlay New Orleans and supported by the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans, on September 10-11th, 2011. Write, NOLA! will be a two day festival of workshops, presentations, a special exhibit of the history of New Orleans spoken word, a “town hall meeting,” and culminating showcase featuring multiple generations of New Orleans spoken word artistry. The City of New Orleans has pledged its support of our endeavors and offered Gallier Hall to stage this phenomenal event. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the WordPlay-sponsored youth initiative, NOYS (New Orleans Youth Slam).
We are inviting poets ranging from those who have been a part of our community since its inception to those who are new, up-and-coming writers. Understanding that our spoken word community has always played a vital part in New Orleans’ cultural economy, Write, NOLA! aims to encourage the community’s continued revitalization, connect our city’s poetic generations, broaden the audience of spoken word in the city, support and encourage the artist community, and aid in the sponsorship of an important youth initiative that represents the next generation in New Orleans spoken word.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at Write, Nola!
– Sincerely, WordPlay New Orleans
